Mini Toddlers (ages 2–4)
In the Mini Toddlers group, children train together with their parents. The practices make playful use of the tatami mat. During part of the class, the group is divided so that older children can try slightly more challenging skill movements than the younger ones. Parents also get light exercise during the session. Mini Toddlers is an excellent way to introduce children to physical activity and spark interest in sports. The group is equally suitable for both girls and boys.
Toddlers (ages 5–6)
Toddlers is a fun and active class for children aged 5–6. The group meets once a week on the tatami, where children develop basic movement skills, such as agility, balance, flexibility, and coordination through games and exercises that include rolls and other playful drills. They also learn ju- jutsu etiquette and simple basic techniques. Toddlers is a great way to encourage a lifelong interest in physical activity. The group is led by trained and experienced children’s instructors and is equally suitable for boys and girls.

Beginners’ Course
Children begin their junior ju-jutsu journey with the beginners’ course. At Combat Arena, several junior ju-jutsu beginner courses are organized throughout the year. Each course lasts about three months, with two training sessions per week.
For the beginner course, sweatpants and a T-shirt are sufficient. As training continues, purchasing a ju-jutsu uniform (gi) becomes necessary. The uniform can be easily purchased from the club’s own shop at Combat Arena.
In junior ju-jutsu, there is a belt system where the color darkens as the student progresses (white, yellow, orange, green, blue, brown). At the end of the beginner course, students take the yellow belt exam.
After completing the course, children join the club as members and continue training in the yellow-belt group.
Yellow, Orange, and Higher Belts
Hokutoryu ju-jutsu is a self-defense system that challenges practitioners with its technical variety and depth. It combines skill, determination, and readiness to defend oneself effectively in real-life situations.
Junior ju-jutsu is the form of Hokutoryu ju-jutsu designed for children aged 7–13. Juniors practice a wide range of self-defense techniques: strikes, kicks, throws, and ground techniques. Training is playful but structured, focusing on developing motor skills, discipline, and teamwork. Children train in separate groups based on their age and belt level. As they progress, the training gradually becomes more adult-oriented, enabling a smooth transition to adult classes later on.
Currently, nearly ten different junior groups train actively at Combat Arena. Turun Ju-Jutsuseura is Finland’s largest Hokutoryu ju-jutsu junior club, supported by more than 20 active junior instructors who also train themselves.
